Who Could it be at this Hour?

All the Wrong Questions

by Lemony Snicket (Author)
Seth (Illustrator)

Who Could That Be At This Hour? is the first offering in the new Snicket series All The Wrong Questions. It brings readers back to a time when Lemony himself is only in his early teens, just beginning his apprenticeship. He and his chaperone S. Theodora Markson (What does the S. stand for? is definitely one of the wrong questions) are called to investigate the theft of a statue of the Bombinating Beast, a legendary question mark shaped sea creature, in the town Stain’d-by-the-Sea and soon discover that very little about the case is as it seems. Well Lemony does at least. S. Theodora is not exactly at the top of her game.

Stain’d-by-the-Sea is peopled by a range of quirky characters who will not disappoint Snicket fans and the book is filled with a plethora of cultural references from jazz to Prince and everything in between. On top of all this the illustrations by Seth add endlessly to the noir mood of the book.

There are enough references to his previous series to keep fans asking all the wrong questions, but for those of you who have never encountered Snicket before, the book is a delight in its own right and you will surely come up with some incorrect questions of your own.

If you like your mysteries tied up and presented with a neat bow at the end of a book, Who Could That Be At This Hour? may not be for you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy mysteries within mysteries, a good giggle and some old fashioned detective work, take a look inside the covers of this new Snicket offering.
