Hugless Douglas and the Big Sleep
by David Melling (Author)
Finally! I've found the book to keep in the bookshelf for my grandchildren: Hugless Douglas. I love this bear. Hugless Douglas comes from the original story where this huge brown lovable Bear is in need of a hug. In this new story, Hugless is off to Rabbit's for a sleepover. Without giving away the story, there follows a series of events which culminate in the maddest scenario I've seen in a while. The text flows nicely around the illustrations without confusing the reader.
It's quite a simple premise but because it's so well presented, it makes the short story very enjoyable.
The illustrations are strong, vibrant and full of expression and detail. David's illustrative style is perfect for this story and expertly brings us along the bumpy road to Rabbit's house with chortles and out-loud laughs. I hadn't seen the Hugless Douglas series before, but I'm busy ordering the whole set as we speak.
