Goldilocks on CCTV
A Damsel in Distress rap and the story of Adam and Eve from the point of view of the Apple, this is the kind of twist to be expected by John Agard in his latest book of poetry. Goldilocks puts a modern spin on classic fariytales and with old favourites being recycled all the time it is a big task to tackle. Agard is unflinching and not only injects humour but has renewed them with much quirkiness and fun.
The illustrations, by Satoshi Kitamura, mix soft water colour and harsher blocks of black and white drawings show off Kitamura’s edgy style – not difficult to see why he is one of the most sought after artists in the world. Goldilocks on CCTV is a refreshing book of poetry, filled with wit and guaranteed to provide a lot of laughter.
