On Maeve Binchy

We're joining the rest of country in sharing the shock and sadness after the news that Maeve Binchy has passed away. Binchy, one of the most recognised name on international bestseller lists, is one the most widely read Irish authors  and has appeared, several times, in front of young readers eyes by way of the Irish Leaving and Junior Certificate English exam papers.

Married to children's author Gordon Snell, Binchy has long been a huge advocate for readers, Irish publishing, libraries and of writers and will be sorely missed by everyone who has read her work and worked with her. Speaking in the Irish Times on 3 July, Binchy said that she didn't have “any regrets about any roads I didn’t take. Everything went well, and I think that’s been a help because I can look back, and I do get great pleasure out of looking back... I’ve been very lucky and I have a happy old age with good family and friends still around.”
