Nina Bawden

Nina Bawden, author of more than 50 books including Carrie's War and Peppermint Pig, has died aged 87. The news was released in a statement by Bawden's publisher Virago, published by the BBC, stating that the bestselling author passed away surrounded by her family.

Bawden, whose accelades include the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, the Phoenix Award from the Children's Literature Association and shortlisting for the Carnegie Medal and Booker Prize received the PEN Award for a Lifetime's Service to Literature in 2004. Best known for Carrie's War, Bawden's work has been adapted many times for television and stage productions on the West End.
