The sun is out and I'm craving some ice-cream… but in the shadow of my desk I haven't a hope of finding any.
Inspired by Chris Judge's illustration from his trip to Italy (above) I did a quick scan of the books in reach and came across some ice-cream related fun - including how much Pegasus loves ice cream (in Kate O'Hearn's Pegasus series) and wasn't there an ice-cream man sucked into hell with Samuel in John Connolly's Hells Bells?
Still, my craving for ice cream calls for more.
What about Julie Bertanga's The Ice-Cream Machine? It was reissued a few years ago - and has some weird flavours… strawberry with a hint of chilli peppers and cheesy peasmint just for starters. Well, maybe not. How about Grace Well's Ice Dreams? Who could turn up the chance to save a village using the power of ice cream??
And then there is my all time favorite - the unforgettable Curious George… who wreaked havoc on an unsuspecting ice cream shop. I think it's time I went and did the same. Or maybe I should follow Judi Curtin's ice cream recipe in Alice and Megan's Cookbook...
